Bashful Bladder Symptom

Parauresis is an anxiety disorder that is related to the fear of urinating in public. Many people suffer from Parauresis, also known as the “shy bladder”, but most are too embarrassed to discuss it or seek help. If you suffer from Parauresis there is no reason to be ashamed at all, and there are treatments available that may help you to face your fear of urinating in public.
Both men and women can suffer from Parauresis, and many people have this disorder without even being aware that it has a name. They just know that they cannot urinate in a public restroom or under the observation of others. Some people have bashful bladder syndrome so severely that they cannot urinate anywhere except for the privacy of their home. Many people suffer with Parauresis to a lesser degree and can still urinate away from home as long as the bathroom is private.
The treatments for Paruresis are similar to treatments for other anxiety disorders and may include exposure therapy, cognitive therapy, and in more severe cases anti-anxiety medications. Before you begin any kind of treatment for Parauresis, you should mention the problem to your medical doctor. He or she may want to run some tests just to rule out any medical cause for the condition such as an enlarged prostate. If you are uncomfortable visiting a therapist to discuss treatment for your Parauresis there are online support communities that are full of others who share your fear as well as other helpful information.
